The term graphic design can refer to a number of artistic and professional disciplines which focus on visual communication and presentation. Various methods are used to create and combine symbols, images and/or words to create a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final result. Graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created and the products (designs) which are generated.
Designing websites can be a long and complicated process. Dealing with clients, designing prototypes, coding, programming, and testing – there's a lot to keep track of and a lot to make sure gets done.
Web development is a broad term for the work involved in developing a web site for the Internet (World Wide Web) or an intranet (a private network) . This can include web design, web content development, client liaison, client-side/server-side scripting, web server and network security configuration, and e-commerce development. However, among web professionals, "web development" usually refers to the main non-design aspects of building web sites: writing markup and coding. Web development can range from developing the simplest static single page of plain text to the most complex web-based internet applications, electronic businesses, or social network services.
What started as a simple website design eventually became a much needed overhaul of the database architecture for this trade association. Their roots extend as far back as 1884, and unfortunately their system at the time had roots that traced back to the 1970s. Given some late night hours and some elbow grease, Amplified Consultants has provided them with a CodeIgniter/PHP/MySQL solution that fully integrates this trade association's members and provides their leaders with the ability to disseminate news quickly throughout the painting industry.
In addition to the main PDCA website, there are several "satellite" sites that were developed for the association. This one uses a jQuery, WordPress and a few other technologies to disseminate information about upcoming Expositions in the Painting and Decorating industry.
Connecting into the same MySQL database as the PDCA website, we are able to harness the membership database in such a way that we can effectively present to the public a diverse catalog of painting contractors contingent upon where they are in the United States.
One of the most important aspects of membership in PDCA is the ability to acquire education about the practices of the painting and decorating industry. Using a combination of WordPress for most of the body, and CodeIgniter for course specific work, we are capable of providing the association's membership with a wealth of information about their industry.
